I’ve done this on mine to remove hum. It’s better to have a separate ground wire connected to the ground terminal of the phono stage rather than rely on the left channel ground.

Here’s a tragic tale: in the 1980s I helped clear out a photography shop that had gone out of business. In payment I was allowed to choose some stuff to keep, including a Garrard 301. I bought a Connoisseur arm for it but never got around to putting it all together. I junked the turntable 😖

The price of old hifi is crazy these days. Last year I sold a 1980s Linn Basik Plus tone arm for £190 on eBay. The turntable originally cost £220.
