Tabling, aside from all the physical labor of setting up and putting things away, is really a great way to spend five hours or so on a weekend day. You meet a lot of fun people, you make sales you wouldn’t otherwise make on a random part of the week, and sometimes you even get to pet a dog

Like I said, I don’t do commissions anymore (though never say never) because this price range literally costs me money if I don’t make work at a breakneck pace and would literally have to make 10x-20x as much art compared to one or two editorials or book covers to make the same amount

So when I did do private commissions (something I have put a pause on for a long time now and now only do client work) I had about a $150-$250 price range for full color custom portraits and it caused a mini twitter uproar because a few folks balked at the idea and thought I was being greedy/elitist

Patreon does seem to be slowing down for a lot of people. The economy has been iffy so I get folks wanting to end subscriptions. Luckily I have always done client work, my own shop, consignment, and added tabling again this year so Patreon hasn’t been something I’m dependent on—though it is helpful!
