You may not be aware a major Cat 5 hurricane struck an area that normally doesn't get them. The eye passed directly over Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

I love this and I feel this really hard as a writer of, specifically, cosmic horror. What do you DO when you're faced with a foe you can't defeat or understand? You still have choices left in your humanity -- not many, but a few -- and the horror is about exploring what those choices are.

This exactly matches my experience crowdfunding across all three platforms (plus Facebook). I'll also add that Bluesky posts have legs. The ones that get shared continue to percolate outward for nearly a week.

Here's a frame-grab from a video of my grandson playing with the family cat. The cat is not "tolerating" this. The cat CHOSE this. Mom separated the two of them, and the cat circled the room once, then nuzzled right up to the baby and purred for more.

Why stop at rule one when you can read the whole darn thing and be shaken to your core? The entire book is swift, gripping and grim. And also necessary in the present moment. And while you're at it, maybe tackle Hannah Arendt's The Origins of Totalitarianism as well.

Extremely abbreviated starting point for the chapter: All the terrible things are part of the same cloth. Claim a spot where you can do the work to unravel it. Choose a level of effort that is sustainable for you over the long haul.

I may need to cycle into a day job sometime in the next year or two depending on a lot of variables. I don't want to. I like the life I've had for the past 20 years, but if the day job keeps me housed and fed, then it is a tool that enables me to make more art in the future.

Some of the difference is definitely the book I'm promoting. Adult creative resources need to reach a different audience than a children's picture book. Also I've got way more experience being on camera than I used to have.

This is where I envy the "if I can't see it, it doesn't exist" feature of some ADHD brains. I have to spend a lot of effort actively dismissing mental alerts about all the tasks I'm not currently doing. Mental task tracker: Don't forget to order Christmas cards! me: It's June.

Back in livejournal days there was software that would auto download entries into a file, but it was basically an unformatted data dump and I had to do a lot of work to make it an attractive book.

I use InDesign, but the same process could be used for other software. It is a manual process where I copy paste each blog entry individually. I use it as a way to re-read and review my year. I can also add notes and info if I feel like something got missed. Then I print via Lulu.com
