"if it were fascism, that would be very inconvenient to me. therefore it's not fascism." the anti-liberal left is a deeply, deeply unserious group of people.
The article very specifically says that its a particular subset of the anti-liberal left and that the vast majority have been more strongly against this current wave of fascism than anyone else
Frankly you portraying it as something else comes across more as whining that you got made fun of on BSky
If you don't see upcoming fascism in the plan that the gop are working on for a post 2024 win, then you are a deeply unseriois person who is missing literally all of the warning signs.
But do off now...
The radical left holds radical ideas that cannot be reconciled with the political centre. They are a sanctimonious lot and that can be compared to the radical right (fascism) who are also mired in their sanctimonious ideology. There is a similarity in their pattern of thought that is extremist
Liberals are so afraid of anything to the left of hunting people for sport they will side with Neo Nazis to save their comfort while writing articles like this to justify their bullshit position.
Liberal capitalist framework is stoking the hypothetical fire of global fascism, and has always been the ideal environment for the growth of right wing radicalization. Part of the reason the anti-liberal “left” is so vehement is the history liberals have of attacking them and their movement
This sounds like auth coms having a normal one.
The left spends a lot of time arguing that we actually have a huge fascism danger, and we need to be preparing to fight against it by any means necessary, including physically.
"After all, if a rising tide of fascism poses an imminent threat to democracy itself, shouldn’t we put everything else aside to defeat that threat?”
one man's ponens is another's tollens, as they say
I suspect that Fascism skeptics on the left secretly harbor the nihilist idea that Trump's triumph will magically clear the ground for their own glorious, socialist revolution. If so, they are dangerously wrong.
1. Liberalism in America is the furthest from a crisis that it has been during my life 2. Liberalism's existential enemy is reactionaries, regressivism and conservatives that want to drag us back into the past.
These people (including those of their dimmer lights present in this thread) remind me of the German Communist Party of the Weimar period, spending most of its energy hating on the "social fascists" of the Social Democratic Party.
Remind me, how'd that work out for them in the end?
There’s been a strange tendency for some to claim that because they’re incompetent it means they aren’t fascist, an idea rooted way back in the capitalist mindset that authoritarians are somehow inherently competent (the Mussolini united Italy, Hitler brought Germany out of depression)
You folks called a riot and a cult of personality “fascism” but refuse to call the police state, military industrial complex, plus an actual fucking genocide “fascism.”
I know who the deeply, deeply unserious group people are, and it’s you anti-left (neo-) liberals.
I appreciate the evidence this lays out, but I think it misses the extent to which the elitist leftishts have to reject Trump-as-fascism because they aspire to be him when they grow up. If what he is doing is wrong, they would have to reflect on whether their own theory of change could be justified
