listen, I’m fairly open to people with a lot of views on the election, including people who say it the outcome won’t make a difference to them, but, even if that’s true for you, it will make a difference to the vast majority of people so get over your shit by November

We’ve all watched the GOP drag rapists, criminals, florid wackos, and brain-dead white supremacists to electoral victory over and over again. Perhaps the Democrats can summon up some of that energy to save our democracy and our lives.

The qualities of the candidate often do not fucking matter if the people who really want that candidate to get elected are willing to play hardball, especially if the candidate is an incumbent. Maybe, just this once, we could learn this lesson from the GOP to save ourselves from true horror.

Hillary had a cold and the media treated it like she was on death’s door. The same thing awaits Harris if Joe drops out. Maybe it’s the media that needs to be asking themselves what the problem is.

Really bummed about how NPR/ATC is covering the presidential race. It just feels like the network has gone full CNN and we’ve lost sight entirely of the policy stakes in the election to keep reinforcing the same horserace narratives so Tamara Keith can more easily riff about vibes & projections.

But now Chief Justice Roberts has (to his everlasting shame) enabled fascism by taking away the prospect for criminal prosecution. I hope Roberts receives total consciousness on his deathbed and goes to his grave knowing that his entire legacy will be as a minion of evil.

With regard to former Sec. of Defense Mark Esper’s chilling account that then-President Trump wanted troops confronting protestors in Lafayette Park to “shoot them in the legs”, I’d love to hear someone ask the follow up question whether Trump understood that people would fall & get hit in torso.

Let me be clear. In my opinion, John Roberts has joined Roger Taney (Dred Scott - slavery) as a Chief Justice who will be remembered as an evil man. Not just wrong, but worthy of eternal condemnation for trying to destroy the Republic.

Hurricane Beryl is likely going to make landfall in Texas in a few days. Corpus Christi to Galveston...Pay attention as tracks have been trending eastward (and may continue so) and possible intensification over the Gulf of Mexico. Plenty of warm water and favorable shear.... The future is here

I like the coconut tree memes as much as everyone else but I do think we should all be on the same page about Harris's quote actually making sense when you realize she was telling a story about her mom and illustrating a point about education.

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

I don't know why this is so difficult for some folks, but a person (whether they be a niche internet micro celeb or an actual famous person) turning out to be a piece of shit doesn't magically make everyone who ever opposed them ontologically good.

this is the point I keep making and I don’t want to be making it but it’s correct no matter how much the opposition sucks and how much this feels like the same old uninspiring message, the danger of letting Republicans hold power is getting worse they are bad and must be defeated every time

yes, it is deeply frustrating that we have to do this over and over and over again and it always feels like fighting a rearguard action unfortunately they are counting on “ugh, I’m sick of this” to gain power again because they just do not stop

i mean an actual revolution would kill millions just from the collapse of all government services, to say nothing of sectarian conflict and pogroms. a lot of social media revolutionaries might just die. many would. i think it’s worth avoiding if we can!

the “some folks just need killing” thing out of north carolina reminds me of a third thing these annoying people are right about: as long as the republican bloodlust grows and their power is unbroken, every election probably will be the most important one of your life

Journalism is supposed to hold power accountable. The NY Times chooses instead to flex power, endangering us all.

Trying to force Biden aside by creating a movement for his ouster out of whole cloth only makes Trump’s election more likely.

NEWS --> Mark Robinson, the MAGA extremist GOP nominee for governor in North Carolina, appeared to endorse political violence against unnamed foes in a recent speech.

"Some folks need killing!" he shouted. "It's a matter of necessity!"

Robinson is hardly the only Republican using language like this. At this point it's pretty close to the official position of the party to call for their political opponents to be arrested, jailed, subject to military tribunal, beaten up, or killed. They're not being subtle about it.
