I love that folks think SCOTUS established a new general rule, as opposed to just having helped Trump in a way that will not apply to Democratic presidents

So let's say an unscrupulous and conniving President (i.e. Me) using this ruling decided to instruct the DOJ to arrest Trump on charges of treason just to hold him in a Fed lockup until January 19th, that wouldn't be allowed?

I agree that it would be applied to Democratic Presidents. BUT, the only thing that matters anyway is what Joe Biden does in the next six months, and he can ensure it doesn't apply to him. After January it may not matter ever again.

I love even more that Biden made an emergency announcement about the ruling and didn't mention the partisanship of the Court. oh no the media is bad and unfair, let's make sure the president is just as useless at communicating the danger of the GOP to the general public

Yeah I realize I read that wrong this morning as well. The ruling puts all the power into the judiciary (which, as we know now can be captured rather easily) to decide whether the sitting or former president is a king or not. It's a partisan ruling entirely.
