JUST IN: Colorado adopted a new law that's a national first: It mandates in-person polling places within local jails, to help people detained there vote.
The Governor just signed the bill into law.
Key context: People in jails typically already have right to vote but face enormous hurdles.
I like the fact on the hearing the warden? was asked point blank if anyone in Jail actually voted. and they said they did not
The wardens and guards were too lazy to even allow people to vote even tho they could, so a law had to be passed forcing them to let them vote
Is this limited to people who have not been convicted, I note the word "jail" is used, not "prison."
And watch out for my soul, I nearly refered to them as pre-conviction.
It’s especially great because we vote by mail, and it’s difficult for a family member or attorney to take the mail ballot in. We also have same day registration, so we have a population who needs more access to the ballot, and they’re getting it.
