Reminder from a Pittsburgher who was at one point Mr. Rogers neighbor:
βLook for the helpersβ was intended to be advice for his usual audience, children. Weβre grown ups now. Weβre supposed to be the helpers.

I think this viewpoint is too absolute, too all-or-nothing.
Depending on what we're discussing, an 'objective' analysis gets more or less possible. We depend on rationality, research, etc., despite postmodernism's alleged rejection of this as 'modernist' (as if no one was rational before that).

"Luxury" = spend money like the wealthy to pretend you're wealthy. There is no greater aspiration for the plebs than being just like their bosses, and their wealthy role models. Everything's fine here. It's fine. Look ... you can afford a 'luxury.' Therefore, you are fine and everything's fine.

This was the first Fugazi album I listened to. Got it because it was the dude from Minor Threat.
First listen: what the fuck is this shit
Second listen (almost a month later): this is fucking awesome
I'm not sure what happened, but I'm glad it did.

I think we definitely, absolutely need consider our frame if we're making any claim to truth or recommending a course of action based on our observations.
But, I also think it's possible to deconstruct the 'frame' so that it doesn't interfere as strongly with our perception/assessment of truth.

I love stuff like this so much. Little things that make the mundane seem wonderful.
Years ago at Texas A&M, anthropology students mourned a dead cockroach: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kris...
This happened over a short period of time, and eventually the roach was sent off with a funeral pyre.

Something important that I find myself reminding students about from time to time:
'objectivity' is π―π°π΅ neutrality.
I'd even argue that if our analysis ends with us being 'neutral' in a matter, then we should definitely look again or, at least, recognize that maybe we don't care.

Goddamn.
The sad part is that I can see this happening; the Lakers desperately need 3-point shooters, and they know it. They tried drafting for one.
I wouldn't be happy to see Klay in purple and gold, but I wouldn't be surprised either.

Thank you for continuing to write the truth despite the dangerous consequences for doing so.

I'm guessing Etsy is about to be bought out by billionaire corps, mostly likely a private equity firm.
Getting rid of the porn is one of the first things that any of these companies do when they're preparing to sell to billionaires.
And, like everywhere, it'll turn to shit once the MBAS rule.

See: accusing pro-Palestine protesters of being 'antisemitic' and also accusing university administrators of being 'antisemitic' and accusing anyone running for public office who voices support of Palestine as being 'antisemitic'
It's an easy power that's very difficult to contest.

If anyone has or will need a source of online information, better grab it now (or hope that archive.org can withstand the endless lawsuits). Otherwise, we're going to have entire periods/contexts of human history that will simply vanish.

I think I'm definitely going to try this once I figure out where to buy zucchini blossoms! I've never seen them on sale in a grocery store, so might need to hit a farmer's market.

I've had fried zucchini before, but I've never eaten a zucchini blossom! My Michigan grandmother made incredible fried zucchini--Grandma knew we loved it, so she'd always make some when we'd visit.
I'm super curious about stuffed, fried zucchini blossoms now! It never even occurred to me before.

It's a genuine shame that the big companies moved most of their manufacturing elsewhere. They thoroughly damaged Detroit when they did that.
For all the good they did, and for as many years as they did it, in the long run their profits were more important to them than the people/culture of Detroit.

It's this weird babushka doll where the people most likely to accuse protesters for Palestinians of being antisemitic are the same people who are then doing antisemitic shit like this
The power of that sort of critique is too easy to use & too difficult to contest; the fascists have figured it out.

It might be even simpler!
We're basically forced to be Malthusian, to believe that there isn't enough on the planet for us, when in reality it's quite simple; there isn't enough for our needs π’π―π₯ their profits; if we didn't have to waste resources on π΅π©π¦πͺπ³ profits, there's more than enough for us.

Yeah. It's easy to be Malthusian about stuff when the most powerful people eat up our resources.
The issue is that they're not consuming resources to fulfill needs--they're consuming resources π΅π° π¨π¦π―π¦π³π’π΅π¦ π€π’π±πͺπ΅π’π.
WE don't need nearly as much to just support ourselves. There is ENOUGH for that.
