Trump's "Brand" was not of a traditional Republican. He positioned himself not so much as a conservative so much as a "pox upon both houses" outsider. Yes, American Conservatism paved the way for him but he's not an ideological hero. Many voters wanted to "send a message/shake things up".

It "fixes" my biggest issues with the first two: Lack of meaningful back and forth between Bones and Spock. Urban and Quinto obviously could handle it. I understand beefing up Uhura but Bones effectively being sidelined for two films was head scratching. And, I enjoy those movies, flaws and all.
