Sure. I maintain that you simply cannot condemn Lucas as a visual stylist in basically anything - his goal with every movie was “how do we take advantage of this tech to make the best spectacle we can” which obviously more honorable than the modern bullshit is mainly my point

And to be clear, I am grateful for that! I was the beneficiary of a sizable-ish award in a class-action lawsuit because managers pressured people at the company I worked at not to take ten minute breaks to get done with closing faster. But I absolutely could never have done that by myself

To say nothing of “can I even afford a lawyer to take this case to civil court at the lowest possible levels”. Most of the things that have happened to me that I have had grounds to sue over (unfair labor practices in retail) have only been redressed because peoples’ wealthy parents bankrolled it

This was my favorite movie when I was a teenager, and yes, parts of it have aged poorly. But what remains resonant is that these are 5 people who, for specific individual reasons, are extremely closed off, and the cathartic scene represents all of them finally letting other people in

The thing about the podcast is that you can appreciate the episodes even if you've not watched the movie in question - often (maybe even most of the time?) the episode uses the movie as a jumping off point to talk about a specific 90s political thing far more than talking about the actual plot

I mean my parents are Presbyterian ministers. My dad voted R until 2020, when he sharply turned toward Biden and preached a lot of sermons creating a permission structure for his church to vote D (in Florida no less). I don't agree with them on everything but I am proud of them for that
