Right-wing legal talking heads are focusing on arguing that it is RIDICULOUS to say that a second-term Trump will be empowered by immunity to do horrific things, while carefully preparing to argue in seven months that it is RIGHT that Trump do horrific things which aren’t actually horrific anyway.
/8 At any rate, congratulations to the Federalist Society for an achievement beyond the reach of the British, outside the grasp of bloody civil war, impossible to Nazis and Soviets and terrorists: defeating the American idea.
Not to mention (and I know you know this) but the idea that it won’t hurt us (is there a term for straight white men?) is a convenient-for-them fantasy. White nationalism and patriarchy hurt us in a lot of ways, and not just via moral hazard
Lost in today's SCOTUS shitshow is that July is Disability Pride Month! One thing I've loved learning about is the history behind the Disability Pride flag.
I think they’ve convinced themselves that the people a,one whom their ideas aren’t popular aren’t legitimate Americans. Or in many cases, not legitimate people.
I just learned that the mifepristone case was originally granted cert because — and I wish I was kidding — the “doctors” filing suit against the FDA for certifying the drug suffered “aesthetic injury” because they love seeing pregnant women so much.
Just shouting it right out, folks.
This reminds me of the time the Northfield CX put a double barrier at the end of a downhill turn where the second barrier was exactly in the spot a beginner dude (don’t make me say the c word) would plant his teeth when he inevitably tripped.
Its extraordinary how much the press has to bend over backwards to avoid observing what is absolutely obvious to anyone following Cannon's decisions: she is ignoring the law in order to help Trump. (and that her willingness to do this is the reason she was appointed in the first place.) Gift link:
But the crucial third thing to consider is that a lot of the earth may soon regularly see wet bulb temps above the survivable limit for mammals … including humans. On top of the water issue, I think I’d still prefer the not-desert, as much as I like deserts…
Also consider that an AC is basically a heat pump and those are now crazy efficient. Replacing furnaces with heat pumps (where possible) would go a quite a ways toward addressing that disparity.
Anyway I’ve read Faine's blog and I know they know all of this, I’m just venting (weak chuckle).
This makes sense even just in terms of the exterior-interior temperature deltas — in places where I’ve lived, hot summers are half or less the temp delta from “room temp” as winters are, and it usually cools down at night … except in Boston some crazy how.
I *love* this part about the dating apps. Having any baseline read on what the other person is like makes it so much easier.
But for me the really valuable bits are knowing the other person is available and looking, and that we have some basic common values and interests.
i think we should stop giving our ai bots female names (alexa, siri) and give them names from the old white boys club (john, james, chad) in honor of how overconfident and annoying they are even when they’re completely wrong or making stuff up
I enjoyed this article when I read it a while ago, then later I found an article about the white guy backlash (dudelash?) where dudes are asking “would you rather talk to a woman, or a tree?”
Dudes, that is not the burn you think it is.
If there's a heaven, I've no doubt Ms. Parton is going there. The writer of that article, on the other hand, will be deeply surprised at her final destination.
If there is no heaven, Ms. Parton is still a good example of public kindness and decency, and the author of the article is a fuckin' bigot.
Morbid curiosity got the best of me, and I read this.
The argument is literally that Dolly Parton is a fake, destructive Christian because despite a lifetime of kindness, decency, philanthropy, and spreading joy around the world, she won’t explicitly condemn gay people for their wickedness.
Maybe some day I’ll get there! Once upon a time I really liked it, raced even. Now it’s just about the company for me. But I don’t think anyone could say either of us hasn’t given both sides a fair shake!
Do what works for you!
On my MTB I feel like an ungainly whale, I’m constantly hurting myself, and really only do it to ride with friends who like that stuff.
On my cross bike I feel like I’m one with the bike and almost whatever I do is fun. Almost.
We’re not all built alike.
Damn, that is … spot on.
My company opened an office a while ago and a group of us collected names of New England thinkers, etc. to use for the conference rooms.
Then I had to scrub the list of all the dudes with crazy racist, eugenicist, etc. ideas. It was a LOT of them. The women were OK though.
A UK research team has discovered that the more CO2 air contains, the longer viruses can stay alive in that air. This is a tranmission double-whammy: poorly ventilated spaces with lots of people in them increases potential viral load and longevity. [statnews.com]
I’m seeing this a LOT since the pandemic. Not sure if that’s just when I started noticing it but it seems a regular occurrence? About half the time it’s so they can drive around someone who stopped for a red light. Wild.
This is the way.
Block and move on.
I’ll support criticism of cyclists who are jerks to pedestrians, but let’s be serious: we basically wouldn’t need traffic controls if not for cars.
I guarantee that the number of car crashes caused by cyclists is dwarfed by the number of cycling crashes caused drivers. It’s probably basically a rounding error in comparison.
