Right-wing legal talking heads are focusing on arguing that it is RIDICULOUS to say that a second-term Trump will be empowered by immunity to do horrific things, while carefully preparing to argue in seven months that it is RIGHT that Trump do horrific things which aren’t actually horrific anyway.
Republicans are fearful of Sotomayor’s dissent. Trump has already threatened to execute Cheney. Democratic turnout will be off the hook. The fear is extreme. Biden’s speech? Pushed by gaslighting Republican media hoping to deflect. Biden’s poll numbers are stable. @chrislhayes.bsky.social
The whole course of the R party for the past few decades has been the emergence of trollocracy. Winning office by out-trolling the opponent, then distracting the media and public with non-stop trolling to allow them to govern in the interest of big donors.
"And in fact if he actually does them then it's perfectly fine and nothing to see here because 2/3 of the Supreme Court said so in a ruling I never read but heard about from Charlie Kirk."
The argument also seems overly focused only on the election crimes trump will commit. Amongst other criminal activities, trump will be selling pardons on day 1 of a second term.
I’ve avoided running for office because I don’t want a target on my back in my deep red state, but it’s getting harder to sit back while all this happens. The gop took the states first. We can’t forget to go all the way down to grass roots.
Was the court majority saying that Woodrow Wilson could have/should have had Eugene Debs killed for urging people not to register for the draft in World War I?
It's so weird because with Trump we don't even have to resort to hypotheticals! He ALREADY did horrific things last time and we know for a fact he wanted to do even more horrific things and was barely held back with threats of legal repercussions!
There is no depth to which Jonathan Turley will not sink. He’ll say that Trump will never do the outrageous things Trump threatens to do, and that there are laws in place to prevent it, then when Trump does them he will say the laws don’t apply and that Trump was forced to do the things by woke.
@kenwhite.bsky.social Is it wrong that I'm keeping a collection of posts like this one (including my own) so I can be like "Don't give me that BS, y'all were warned and you still stayed home" when we're all in the free cheese line this time next year?
NYT lying: "The Court ruled that presidents are presumed to be shielded from prosecution for official acts. That includes policy changes, military decisions and discussions with other administration officials. It doesn't include, for example, private acts taken exclusively as a political candidate."
I just remember the lists of “What Trump has accomplished so far!” that went around the social media in 2018/2019. Line after line of things that were either immoral, done incompetently, or simply out of left field. Things that were abhorrent to me.
Think it's really telling that the RNC has told reporters from CSPAN and Semafor that their platform will be "secret" at their July convention in Milwaukee.
It's *really* obnoxious when it's coming from someone like Mike Johnson, who was an *active participant* in planning Trump's coup attempt.
Like, of all the people who shouldn't be listened to when it comes to this...
Would it be about accurate to say that the immunity decision still allows Prez actions to be struck down as illegal/unconstitutional, but OTOH POTUS could just have those judges killed?
Look Ken, Liz Cheney had to be executed by a secret kill squad because she did treason and would spread her treason if she got the bully pulpit of a trial in Wyoming.
