i think we should stop giving our ai bots female names (alexa, siri) and give them names from the old white boys club (john, james, chad) in honor of how overconfident and annoying they are even when they’re completely wrong or making stuff up

Also the iPhone “assistant” seems to be getting dumber and making more mistakes. Some days it can barely use its own navigation (“I found this on the web about navigating to Aldi”) Good time for a renaming.

I just don’t use them. It’s not that hard for me to type in the browser bar. I have the audio turned off on my GPS, too, because I can read a map.

With Alexa we can do this even now, I think. If I am not mistaken it has a choice of male voice, and you can change the activation word from "Alexa" to whatever you want.

We got our only Alexa device (speaker) a few months ago, and it was interesting: My husband felt he had to be slightly authoritative when giving orders, and I had to suppress the instinct to say "please." Have just changed its ID to male Australian, Ziggy, to see if there's a difference.

whatever happened to the movement to change Siri's voice on our devices to a snotty British dude like Jarvis? Folks still doing that? Have my phone set that way. I'd be okay if it were the default. Also, I want responses from ChatGPT read in the voice of the most ridiculous relative anyone has.
