I know we're trying to find the magic formula on where these ppl come from, where they hang out, and what "turns" them, but having seen them come from and be anywhere, and seen ppl with all levels of power do this stuff, the answer is that anyone has the propensity to do these things. Which sucks.

Sexual predation is clearly not limited to the arts, and so-called "whisper networks" exist in every profession. And ultimately these networks always, always fail. They don't reach the most vulnerable and they don't ever remove the offender or prevent future harm.

Inks are not only my favorite to do, they're also my favorite to read! The magic that people can do with a few grays, black and white just really grabs my eye in a way color never has ^_^ Yeah, there's a lot of snobbery that the art community could do without >_<

I used to get actively harrassed by randos online telling me my comic needed to be in color >__< There's a lot of "you should do" when it comes to comics, and I've found just making the comic in a way that makes you enjoy making it is the way to go ❤️

I will say, having tabled at anime conventions since the early 2000's, comics were always SUPER hard to sell, for many reasons. I miss cons, but I don't think i could afford them anymore. Comics take long to make too, so putting out just comics is tricky w/out another form of income.

webcomic creators are often the most passionate and driven creators out there because the medium exists, by necessity, purely for the love of the craft. absolutely no one expects their projects to be self-sustaining financially. commitment is the last thing I think a creator lacks in webcomics

Some thoughts on this from someone that has connections to Anime Con World and Comic Creator World(🧵): Most Artist Alley vendors at NA anime cons don't aspire to make comics. AA vending and merch creation (original and fan) has become its own career path that artists aspire to.

Yup. Insta has been an artist graveyard for a while & Twitter dying was an inevitability/foregone conclusion. We should lament the loss of these spaces (and many of us have adapted to new ones) but these are struggles we artists online have dealt with before as tech/social media implodes & explodes.

As a comic person who wishes i could put all my work into comics and not think about merch ever again, Deb's thread and Eric's follow up here were excellent reads (especially bc i have sold in both countries). It's a niche overlap for sure, but it's nice to find others talking about it ^__^
