Well that’s pretty good… I knew a lab that had the open button on an adjacent wall far away from the door and hidden behind empty boxes…. 😕

This is how you know you've badly designed your doorway exit system.

Most embarrassing moment: In college there was a kiosk at the student union that sold concert tickets. It was completely plastered with "Cash Only" and "No Credit Card" signs. Out of habit I immediately tried to pay with a credit card.🤦

the only part of this i am reading is the bit on the door itself which says "in case of emergency push to open" and i will be pushing the door itself.

my experiences with people tells me you would still have individuals very confused on how to open the door lmao

I mean, this is also subtly asking me to consider if I’m in an emergency! In which case, do I push the button, or do I trust what the door is saying?!

This is much better than what I usually see on push-button door openers, which is for some reason "Activate Switch to Operate."

I am one of those people who has trouble parsing directions, and I have to say they're actually courting further confusion with the multiple colors of the arrows!

Without those arrows, I'd probably get confused too 😂 Been in buildings with similar setups, and takes a moment to figure out whether it's an emergency exit only (where opening will set off an alarm) or really is the way out! 😂

A genuine and scary problem is that signs don’t work as well anymore anywhere. That includes place where everyone is going 70 mph.

The signs don’t work because there are too many signs, so people ignore all of them. Each one makes it worse, leading to more signs. The only solution is to make it so the bar on the door works or accept the messy reality. Otherwise, you are fighting common industrial design with a copy machine.

You joke but we have such a thing at my workplace and it, too, is surrounded by signs pointing to it, and it is regularly ignored
