I think my personal best was a day lost to reading about Lutheran schism in the US midwest in the 1800s. The who's-out-of-communion-with-whom timeline implies a lot of folks writing hotheaded letters from snowfall to spring thaw every year.

It really is how they work, actually, despite the language of the law. The prevailing wage is a very malleable number, mobility is hard, and if the holder gets laid off, they have iirc 30 days to start a new job or leave the country.

No, that's consistent with my experience. I would add MIT and Stanford MBAs as well. I suspect the people who advertise those degrees widely are most of the problem set, but that's pure speculation.

It was weirder than that - he stopped me for speeding on the highway, but rather than the usual stuff, led off with "Kid, what would you have done if you came over that rise, and instead of me shooting radar, there was a moose in the middle of the road?" 1/2

I've been threatened with a moose there, by a traffic cop. Never seen a moose there, but. ... There's also a nice flour mill where you can see them bolting the flour to remove the bran. That's up near the Canadian border though.

UPDATE: NY Governor Kathy Hochul said on CNN last night that she is considering a ban on masks. This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.
