"The fact that we're going to hold Joe Biden to one standard and Donald Trump to another, which is really no standard at all." - @JoeNBC on The New York Times et al.
He probably would as an aspirational hope, but if he were actively seeking that post he would have likely chosen a different professional path.
I don't see him getting to the bench from academia, but I could be way, way off.
FWIW, I am all-in on a 13-member SCOTUS. đ¤

Kavanaugh has never, ever, ever gotten over his resentment for Bill Clinton. Clinton appeared to be everything Kavanaugh strived to and failed at beingâcasually comfortable, charismatic & easily smart. If only Kavanaugh had known how deeply unhappy Clinton was he might've been less resentful. Alas.
Given there are extenuating circumstances Justice Merchan can consider in sentencing (10 acts of contempt, disrespectful courtroom behavior, etc), could he get a wild hare up his ass and order Trump held in custody pending appeal? I understand how unlikely but Merchan has to be chapped-ass by now.
Just think of the vast new powers Joe Biden now has:
He can cut the tag off a mattress AND he can disable a smoke detector on a commercial flight while facing zero consequences for these actions.
Now that is omnipotence.
/8 At any rate, congratulations to the Federalist Society for an achievement beyond the reach of the British, outside the grasp of bloody civil war, impossible to Nazis and Soviets and terrorists: defeating the American idea.
It's hard to even imagine the limits of the power that SCOTUS has just handed the president. If you can keep 34 senators and the military on your side, you can do anything.
"As for the dissents," Roberts writes, "they strike a tone of chilling doom that is wholly disproportionate to what the Court actually does todayâŚ"
But do they? Really?
To my eye there's one gigantic difference: intra-party fracture had LBJ fighting a figurative two-front war. For now it seems the party plans to maintain unity behind Biden.
You've forgotten more about this than I'll ever knowâam I misunderstanding a key difference?
When people keep misunderstanding your point it drives me nuts.
This race will come down to ~50k voters spread among six key states who've not made up their minds yet & dislike both candidates. Most of these are low-info voters. Optics matter. It's almost as if they don't remember 2016.
Thursday night I legitimately had the same visceral feeling I had on two occasionsâelection night 2016 and when the news of RBG's death broke, both for the same reason: despair for the short- and long-term direction of the whole country.
Am truly praying that streak breaks.
Hey, LA-area friends & neighbors! I've got a piece in this show starting at month's end. Please go check it out. (I'm beyond honored & a little intimidated to be honest to be included. It's an awesome gallery & I'm going to be surrounded by literal legends.) coreyhelfordgallery.com/shows/kirby-...
Reinforcing your point: Maus won a Pulitzer and some would say elevated the comics medium to high art and literature. (We could quibble about the subjective point there.)
That story sure isn't born of commonality of experience. And that's to name just one example.
I am certainly no constitutional scholar but âWhen a cop tells you to do something, you fucking do itâ seems to run exactly counter to the 4th Amendment.
I'm no constitutional scholar or anything but it seems to me âWhen a cop tells you to do something, you fucking do itâ is the exact opposite of the 4th Amendment.
Which "they?"
NYC jury? Nope. They might dither about 34 counts but he'll be found guilty is my bet. Sensible (read: non-hysterical resistance types) I've heard say he's likely to be sentenced to probationâfirst-time offender, non violent, etc. Appeal to last 18 months if he loses election.
Painted sketch cover for Rodney Barnes & Jason Shawn Alexanderâs Nita Hawes Nightmare Blog. I did the whole image just for an excuse to paint the butterfly.
