Here's the thing: the people pulling the fire alarm on Trump v. US are people like Radley, Legal Eagle and @kenwhite.bsky.social , etc. I've followed these guys for years and they are not prone to panic-mongering. They're usually the ones saying, "Take a deep breath". It really is that bad.

I remember packing up the samples collected by one of three AAAS fellows at my university after a junior prof got the tenure position that should have been hers. We had to sneak her samples out of the labs for her to take to her new job. I'm still shaking my head 60 YEARS LATER! GODDAMN NO CHANGE!

A crucial part of this story, by the way, is the recognition that decent people standing up against evil people was essential. It still is. Jackson got through it both based on his strength of character and based on key people not putting up with bad behavior.

Take a page out of the book of Popehat. He has fun leading them on, like asking them to bury a body in return for writing the article (or is it sending gift cards to Africa?). He has many other strategies as well, all very clever. They tend to leave him alone. He's on bluesky.
