Something similar happens in Drew Hayes’s “Poison Elves”, where an elf catching a disease would incubate it over an unpleasantly long period of time. (In this case they also got sick but wouldn’t die quick as humans did, since this was an 3dgy 90s comic)

Pop is perfectly adequate and fairly well-supported, so it's not a bad choice. In complete honesty most distros, in one way or another, aren't bad distros but they depend on your skill level and use case.

I remember arguing about GIMP on /. yonks ago and what finally clicked for the other participants was when I said (heavily paraphrasing) "yes it has feature parity but it doesn't have workflow parity". There's probably worse OSS out there, but it's the mainstream breakthrough hit of wretched OSS.

You can make the darken/desaturate edits in Photos, but that's never really a proper fix and it isn't what I think you'd rather have* anyway. *a dynamic and localized darkening/desaturation

Yeah, it's weird. Ever since playing on a 144Hz monitor, 60fps feels *off* in a way that's hard to explain compared to both higher and lower framerates.
