The AI trend of “we took this art and expanded it beyond the artist’s intent because *more* of a thing means better” - showing what’s “out of frame” in a shot from a movie, or turning a six word short story into a novella - speaks to what art actually is: knowing what isn’t necessary.
Getting really angry at all the people with a 10th grade reading level trying to dictate what gets to be considered art. These morons wouldn't make it 10 seconds on a fanfiction board, let alone as an author, yet they are the sole arbiters who are gatekeeping entire industries.
AI easily impresses people because the computer does something they have not seen before. People are not asking, 'Is this actually good or needed?'. We need a deeper critique of AI tech to answer questions about its usefulness to humanity.
Clearly these tech bros never learned the importance of framing in art. Unless it involves gaslighting and framing artists for things they never did....
i saw some AI company saying they animated memes to show what happens after the meme-pose, and included examples of memes that are just screenshots of actual movies or TV shows (like Picard's facepalm). and it's like... dude. it's a movie, it's a TV show. there's footage of what happens after!
Best criticism I got after I’d made a short video for a company party was, “you really could’ve used an editor on that.” The best part was that the company was an editing house. That made the criticism really stick with me. 😄
