I think the reason Philip K Dick is still the predominant SF writer of the last century is, he was the only one who foresaw a future where everything would be boring, inconvenient and dehumanising, and where the only way you can win is to somehow refuse to give up your humanity.

Dreamt that Huck had, somehow, manifested as a human being - albeit a mute one. He handed me a note saying that he didn’t want to be a dog anymore. It said that he wanted to go and study fashion and textiles at uni and would I release him from his ‘contract’?

Vague thoughts. There are two Russell T Davies. There's the one who wrote The Second Coming, It's A Sin and Dot and Bubble. And there's the one who wrote Coronation Street: Viva Las Vegas, Mine All Mine, Space Babies and The Devil's Chord. His best work is when they collaborate.

Yeah that’s got to be bad actors. There is zero chance that THAT market is going to actively discourage queer custom.
Not out of any entrenched principles of course - they’re just not in the business of discouraging ANY punters

Dear humanity,
We have a sufficient quantity of monsters in the house. Please refrain from inviting any further monsters in.
They do not wipe their feet.
They do not use the bins provided.
They do not know about the coasters.
With thanks,
The Management.

My favourite feature of a house I went to view yesterday was this lone, dusty rapier - sitting patiently in a beam of sunlight in the shed.

There is a particular bliss in day-napping off a headache. It’s like putting a burnt hand into cold water. You can still feel the weight of the pain - the bass frequencies- but it has no bite.

Guys… if we can just fold that shit up into a function pair of origami scissors, we’ll have the ultimate weapon.

Make a crude effigy of yourself using stitched together old socks. Stuff it with the collected lint and leave this grim cuddly toy in a prominent place with a sign saying ‘your neglect did this’.

Nothing illustrates that better than Jenny Colgan on Comfort Blanket working out that Arnie in the Terminator isn’t the story at all. He’s just a plot timer. An oncoming truck. A deadline for the romance to blossom. “Arnie is the prom” is my favourite writing insight in ages. That’s plot v story.
