imagine how much great art could have been created if we took a fraction of the money spent on getting computers to make shitty art and gave it to actual artists

Russia sustains its war effort with help from Iran and North Korea. The "mighty Russia is so big, they'll never break, stop wasting lives and give in to the inevitable" takes leave that part out. Russia isn't doing this alone, and couldn't. The costs strain their society, and can't go indefinitely.

Seven times between 1801 and 1869 Congress changed the size of the court, going from a low of five justices in 1801 to a high of ten in 1863. In most of those cases, as in 1801 and 1863, the size went up and down in order to fix an imbalance or overreach by the Supreme Court. My latest

When the american liberals use France's election as an illustration of the need to VOTE, they ignore that people were not only voting against the far right but *for* something. They voted for a campaign which promises to: increase minimum wage, lower retirement age, pay for all childcare, etc

Been thinking about the Claudine Gay coverage as a keystone to Biden coverage : it was an editorial campaign driven by story after story. It takes enormous editorial hubris to be certain they are right (they were wrong about Gay).

I really hope reporters and editors take note of this. I knew some shit was going to start when comms people started asking for source lists when I'd reach out about stories - you do not under any circumstances provide source lists or notes to other sources - this is deranged behavior

I've finished armchair-travelling Hadrian's Wall. Hinterland & outpost forts remain, but the big read is done. What gets me is, for the entire 330 years Romans occupied what's now northern England, it was *always* a heavily militarized zone. In the south, civilian life took over. Not the north.

People are angry about AUSTERITY. Many voters are open to blaming immigrants for the problems that led to austerity. But immigrants didn't cause those problems in any real sense; in fact they could be a big part of the solution.

Italian prosecutors in Milan investigated how Dior is producing their handbags.

They found that the workers were sleeping in the facility so bags could be produced around the clock.

Consumers pay $2,780 per bag.
The production of the bags costs Dior $57.

The flipside to that as well is that the R groundgame is basically trash, which makes even those types of numbers a bit hard to interpret. Basically the whole cycle is a flock of black swans and everyone's trying to peer through frosted glass a bit to interpret what's going to happen

Especially given that Biden was an erratic speaker in his prime—the question is how far off his cognitive baseline Biden is now, and if you're gonna push out a news alert every time he misspeaks and immediately corrects himself, you're just making it harder for the public to figure it out!
