Way back in 2021 White House economists argued that the inflation surge resembled the spike after WWII and could be ended without major pain. They were right! www.whitehouse.gov/cea/written-...

Irgendwann wenn die materiellen Nöte so evident werden, funktioniert auch der dümmliche Kulturkampf nicht mehr. Die Tories haben das gerade gelernt.

Well, a footnote to the political career of the politician who was Prime Minister when Queen Elizabeth II died. Voters didn't like Liz Truss' tax-cuts-for-the-rich PM agenda.

He thinks some of the people who voted Labour are on loan, and Labour will have to show demonstrable results to keep them.

Starmer: "Country First. Party Second." Hopefully the acts of the majority government will bear that out. Starmer's Labour Party sounds a bit like the 1990s' Third Way. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/458626....

Conceding elections strengthens the democratic process. As opposed to what Trump did, and may do again.

Sunak: The UK government will change power in "a peaceful and orderly manner." Heard here in the US. Down with demagogues, wherever they are elected, who refuse to concede election losses. Demagogues reflect badly on the voters who elect them to office, who give them governmental power.

The Tory government flying asylum seekers to Rwanda & dumping them sounded so cruel I thought at first that it might be made up. Nope. Never underestimate the cruelty of conservatives.

What a surprise: the Tories are doing better than the polls—including the exit polls—were suggesting. Lesson: don't trust the polls. There's only one poll that matters. Too many people didn't bother to vote. That's a problem.

Keir Starmer's red tie was somewhat disorienting to Yanks. The red colour denotes the Labour Party, whilst red is used by conservatives in the US, which is why Trump wears one.

It sounds like presumptive PM Keir Starmer positioned the Labour party to meet disaffected voters where they are. Savvy of him. The party will have their work cut out for them, with no pre-Brexit reset possible.

It's not just emotion. They may also be hostile to social change, sometimes grounded in religious or racial prejudice. They may want to be a part of an exclusive advantaged social group. We also all have some amount of confirmation bias.

Many Americans take our democratic values for granted. We've had these values our entire lives, so people may self-defend against feeling alarmed. Agreed that getting out the small-d democratic vote in battleground states to defeat an unscrupulous demagogue is Priority No. 1.

Some conservatives don't have political opinions that are based on factual information. That's their responsibility, but it is more difficult than it was to find fact-checked information.
