Last Sunday, a heavily armored gunman above a Pulse Nightclub took a vantage point above a queer gathering. He handed his massive weapon to an accomplice, who then took position and aimed it directly on the massive crowd below.
What really makes this whole scene hurt is that someone who made the decision to let this be allowed did not consider the connection between this scene and the Pulse Masacare, on June 12,2016, where 49 people lost their lives to an active shooter.
This is still painful to many of usβ¦
To add on to this shitshow, there were mass shooting threats the day before, people bringing real guns on the con floor, and a white supremacist handing out propaganda fliers. FWA staff did nothing and has not addressed any of these concerns
This is beyond me, I hate this kinds of people like you are going to a con to have fun and your definition of fun is aiming a "prop" gun to a crowd full of people??? This people just need to get locked in a mental asylum cause this people aren't fitted for society in general....
If i saw that my first instinct would be to either run, or flip them off the balcony.
Like theres not even an orange tip, its a completely realistic looking gun. Think imma start checking if the cons I go to explicitly ban this kind of edgelord cosplay.
I feel like if people are complaining about a group of people, then the con staff should do something about it. It doesn't matter if their "props" were approved or not, if they're causing a problem, fucking deal with it.
It is stated in FWA's rules clearly that prop firearms won't be permitted if they can be seen at a glance and mistaken for a real firearm. This falls under that,, and I can't believe they just allowed that?
If they were stated by staff to be approved, then are we sure that the firearms were actually real, or were they members of our community who like the βtacticalβ aesthetic stuff. I have several friend who go REALLY hard into that kinda gear and have collections of replica arms
I know that FWA has a lot to deal with, and given that they'd already OK'd the guy's prop gun, they probably thought that concerns were overblown in the moment.
I'm hoping that the publicity from this leads to a ban on tactical gear, prop guns, and these guys in particular from future cons.
I understand the Con restricted this, but does that apply to Hotel Space? Do the Con rules apply to the lobby areas? How much autonomy do cons have in these situations for non-con space, so future policies can be made.
Permabanned and the con has a LOT of trust rebuilding on their hands now. In this day and age? A person in full tacticool with a fuckin' gun like that? I'm not waiting to find out if it's a prop, I'm going to try to take them out before they hurt others. Period. How you think that's gonna play out?
Yep, but pup hoods and rubber are a problem. JFC. This tacti-cool jaggoff cop cosplay is the troubling bit, but they get to just walk around with what is nigh on indistinguishable from an actual M4. Fuck this noise, someone needs called out on the floor.
I saw them on Twitter talking about how it was okay'd as a prop by the staff.
Like, that's good to know, but they didn't clear it with everyone they were pointing it at. π‘
what an unbelievable piece of shit
Also a cursory look at his socials show he is a right wing troll, so next time he does something like this, feel free to let him have it
It's wild to me that people are casually accepting of this while on the same weekend there was a mass shooting at a nightclub on the other side of the city, killing 2 and injuring 4.
To me this looks like a "dry run" and has now proven that a person can get into position over a crowd at the convention without opposition. It is an absolutely intolerable failure.
I would've absolutely panicked if I saw that. In recent years this has become such a legitimate fear to have when attending any kind of function. JFC, why would anyone think this is a good idea?!
Not fine they could have their own events for guns or whatnot but not attempt to cause a panic at an existing event
The hotel, event should permanently ban them. They were liable if this became a problem or caused a stampede or anyone got hurt as a result...
Behind the scenes, furry conventions like this one are constantly dealing with actionable threats of mass gun violence, even more so in recent years from the ramp-up in dangerous rhetoric in rightwing media. This kind of thing happening has always been a real and terrifying threat.
