The initial promise was extraordinary, but the underlying technology is limited to simple solutions. Sam Altman knew and was probably told repeatedly. I’m more disappointed in Satya Nadella for not doing due diligence.

I took a seminar today where the guy who made an AI app for HR that was then taken over by a large HRIS was trying to tell us to use AI to resolve a made up HR problem that doesn't really exist His biggest tell that he is getting resistance to AI? "Well as long as you get the algorithm right..." 🙄

The best 'Chief AI Officer' persona at this point in time should be the people who don't know anything yet and KNOW they don't know anything/enough about AI, instead of all those gurus claiming they are 'experts'. It's dangerous times for information and how it is used...

yup. if "AI" isn't the next lightbulb/radio/internet (it's not), then a lot of really rich assholes whose wealth is dependent on their image as pillars of society and innovation look like fucking idiots, and they'd rather try to make "AI" happen than admit that they're basically just fucking conmen.

My view of AI today is it's very similar to the .com boom. Some of today's AI companies are going to be the pets.com, while others are going to be Amazon. Telling which at this point is impossible.
For some it will be improvements in the tech, for others it;s going to be how they implemented.

I've yet to understand how any of it makes money for anyone. Like I'm genuinely confused. Nvidia makes sense, they sell the hardware to run it and Apple fleeced OpenAI so they'll make a few bucks but everyone else? Subscriptions? Is that the grand plan? It does not seem like that will work at all.
