I have five Gen Z kids and by all accounts, they and their friends and other college students they know are all fed up with old men and are likely to stay home. This is anecdotal, but if it is systemic, Biden dropping out may the only way to engage with a huge voting bloc. This is not good.

My apartment in 1990 had a shower dubbed by me, my roommate, and many friends was called The Hurricane because the water pressure was crazy powerful and the shower head was made prior to restricted versions. I miss that shower.

Simply saving it locally might be a copyright violation. Sadly, by the time this gets anywhere in the courts, the lives of many creatives will be ruined. I hope there’s an eventual payout, but I’m very skeptical.

Sounds like an excellent plaintive argument. I’m not a lawyer, but the defense will suggest it doesn’t matter what is ingested as long as what is produced is not identical, ie “fair use”. I think a bigger legal argument could be made over how OpenAI and others gained access to copyright material.

This will be the test legal test. Will the Supreme Court (eventually) view “training” as “fair use”? I hate it as much as anyone, but I’d wager the law will label it fair use. We probably need new laws.

This is all based on ChatGPT and specifically Sam Altman. Just because he’s an idiot con man doesn’t mean the tech is useless. The LLM science world is so much bigger and smarter than OpenAI. (And more ethical) Ilya left OpenAI likely because of the ethics and misuse concerns. There’s hope.

It’s just a theory. I’m unemployed and pretty sure part of the IT job market being tight is CEO’s confusion over LLMs. So I’m against the overblown push on AI, but I’m also a software architect and I’m always looking at how technology can be used well.
