COVID is not over. Scientists are worried about bird flu. We need to be ready for the next pandemic. Right now we need to depoliticize and normalize mask-wearing. North Carolina’s anti-mask bill recklessly does the exact opposite.

Related to previous post, there is also a micropublication venue for short papers focused on natural history specimens and collections: specimenpub.org 🧪

This looks awesome as a venue for negative results, that one figure/experiment that got left out of another manuscript, 'not-quite-worth-a-full-paper' student projects etc. 🧪

This looks really cool! I would be happy to serve as a reviewer but it says postdocs need approval of their PI? How does that work? (I am a postdoc and I regularly review for other journals)

Hello #entomologists -- does anyone have ~10 Malaise traps that my lab could borrow for the summer? Alternately, does anyone know of a good supplier for purchase? Part of my supply has "walked" to a few other projects on campus. Thanks!

I have 2 that will be sitting idle this summer and I bet Chris has a few more sitting around. Forestry Suppliers now carries the bugdorm ones but they take a while to get

I didn't know that New Zealand has an introduced species of Peacock spider! Gorgeous wee thing. 🧪🕷️

It really depends on the brand but older non-computer-having machines can be really solid! I was using my mum’s old Pfaff from the late 80s (I think) up until a few years ago. But when I broke a part it was tough to replace/find someone to fix

Here's an example of an ENGO not thinking about the broader picture, other movements & science when launching a new pollinator initiative. Lights harm moths, migrating birds, fireflies & other wildlife. We should not be encouraging more lights, esp in the name of pollinators

Relationships - Babies

After hatching, vinegaroon babies cling to their mother's butt for protection, forming a clump of tangled orbs with legs.

In most species, this lasts for a few weeks, until the dozens of babies are old enough to molt for the very first time. 🎨 🐡
