I actually agree with Justice Gorsuch that the EPA should not be regulating Nitrous Oxide, since it doesn’t seem to be a chemical which causes damage to our environment, seems like it’s a mild anesthetic used in dental surgery. The FDA should be regulating Nitrous Oxide.

That’s great. The more reps the harder it is to gerrymander. We need each individual person in government to have LESS power. It’s harder to capture a system of government if it has more people in charge.

Watching the British election returns I feel compelled to point out that the 650 person House of Commons represents 67 million people and the 435 person House of Representatives in the United States represents 333 million. Replace the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. We deserve representation.

July 4th is very rough on my dog (he is a royalist and considers George Washington a traitor)

In a way, the 4th of July is a state of mind, a sense of freedom. So it’s always the 4th of July anytime you’re drunk and have explosives.

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

Classic American political dialogue is premised on the idea that we share fundamental values but disagree on how best to promote them. I haven’t believed this for a while. Other than “I prefer to be alive and not dead” and “I like pudding,” I do not share values with these people.

There are two elements to the immunity decision that are particularly extreme in a way that many will miss: (1) motive is irrelevant and (2) immune acts are not just excluded from prosecution, they’re excluded from evidence. /1

For this 4th of July, the Supreme Court has a very, very special gift to America: They're bringing back the monarchy! Don't like it? Lay your head on the block, peasant. wapo.st/3xEpj4E

Hours after the Supreme Court sharply curbed the power of federal agencies, conservatives and corporate lobbyists began plotting how to harness the favorable ruling in a redoubled quest to whittle down climate, finance, health, and labor regulations.

I simply can’t believe Trump could win anyone over except the perpetually undecided. If you voted against him in 2020 and are a Republican, I just see how he isn’t the same asshole you hated in 2020. I could them staying home and not voting, but if you hate the guy you hate him.

Boy isn’t it! I think this person just wanted to hurt me for shaming them about their bullshit, self-defeating stance on voting, though.

These are prepared remarks, and he was trying to string together facts and figures on the fly last night. If he just made up whatever sounded good to him, which is what Trump did, he probably would have done better. But the optics are the optics.

I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

Last night I messaged our IT guy who we contract with to fix computer issues. He figured he could fix the problem remotely. I left work at 6 and give him the go ahead to take a look. But he started watching the debate & got depressed & started drinking & figured he shouldn’t work on the computer.

Gotta disagree here Maggie, I left the store 2-3 times, usually once per store, and resolved that I would never buy deodorant/whisky/detergent from that store ever again.
