I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

If there is one Trump content takeaway amidst ALL the lies and word salad tonight it is harsh anti-immigration. (Not much content, no policy plans, but blaming immigration for everything from crime to house prices to inflation to the national debt to opioids (maybe unclear)?...)

Can't imagine many will watch this in part or full. It will ALL be about the spin, the sound bites, the ways any small bit can be weaponized, & in confirming preconceived notions. FWIW, it is about consensus in political history circles debates don't tend to move the needle...

I've written about this before. Hearings matter. Regardless of their outcome, they draw a line in the sand regarding what is NOT acceptable, and demonstrate that to the public. A hearing regarding Justice Alito would also show the Democrats pushing back.

Hey, look, yet another campus settling this peacefully. It's almost like the university presidents that called in armed police to their campuses to handle their own students made an incredibly stupid mistake and should be forever banned from leading an educational institution.

Implementation is all that any policy actually is. When you see some behaviors leading to arrest and prosecution one night, as part of a protest against police violence, while the same behaviors the next morning are tolerated as mere tailgating, it's not the behavior that's being punished.

I am genuinely baffled at how badly so many university administrators are stuffing this up. They looked at UT Austin and Columbia and said "yes, we want that for our campus, but more violent." What do they think the long term effects will be on campus culture after they shoot at their own students?

Went over to the other place to talk about supporting free speech and peaceful protesters, to reject violence against protest. A lot of cranks, but what struck me most is that the silence of the "absolute" free speech folks on the right is really quite striking, but not at all surprising, isn't it?
