This is the behavior Trump wants to reward Putin for. And the press is like, "Well, that's just what he does!"

Whenever you think Republicans aren't good at politics, keep in mind we've spent the two weeks since the Supreme Court gave the most corrupt, anti-rule of law president in American history an invitation to be a king discussing the difference between being 78 and 81.

I’m not saying Biden should drop out. I’m just wondering how he wins over undecideds when teams of reporters and Twitter trolls are scrutinizing every syllable he utters for signs of impairment while every deranged thing Trump says is treated as old news. (2/2)

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

To be slightly more fair, he did say they “would be immediately impeached and removed from office,” not prosecuted, but that seems a little hollow as Trump’s own party refused to convict him for trying to overthrow the government.

Back in the 80s, I met women who'd gotten a voice message from their doctor's office late Friday afternoon to say there was an irregularity with their test and to schedule an appointment to find out what it was. Those women had a full weekend of freaking out with no recourse, later to find no prob

Reagan was investigated by the Iran Contra independent counsel, along with his senior aides. And while the GOP protested mightily, and George HW Bush pardoned those who were indicted, it never occurred to anybody then that the President was just… immune to all criminal charges.

What’s interesting of course is that Biden has in fact used his executive power in unilateral ways, to forgive student debt and require vaccines for federal employees. In both cases. SCOTUS struck it down as an unlawful violation of the separation of powers.

I don't know, once I got the context, I got the joke. Most of the time, I really laughed at the joke. I definitely remembered the history required to get the joke. Probably not good for everyone, but a history class based around political cartoons would have really worked for me.

Part of my history research in school was trying to get the joke of an old cartoon or humorous column. Never made for a good school essay.

The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.

I didn’t watch the debate, and most of the professional commentary I’ve seen on it has both not provided me with any new information about the race and inspired contempt for the commentators. I don’t know if I’m a typical American in this regard, but that’s where I’m at.

I worked for a place with automatic phone verification. A guy got a new number but the old owner of that number forwarded calls from a second number to that number. We kept sending notices to his number. Was hell trying to explain to the guy why he kept getting messages from us. Finally resolved.

A friend of mine's father was in the Navy. On leave, he'd go to a church because the congregation loves a service man, some family would feed him a nice home cooked meal, and he could talk with their daughter

It’s ruining everything but this fucked up set of incentives selects for executives and managers who literally don’t understand anything else. Trying to correct course toward healthy competitive markets strikes them as a wholesale attack on business as they know it. It’s a bad scene.

Wall Street’s pathological and ruinous demand that companies show perpetual growth, as opposed to healthy sustainable profits, is only possible in a world where firms are allowed to lock up markets, eliminate competition and collect increasing extractive rents at increasing scale.
