A bit of promo as reaching readers becomes increasingly difficult. My current contemporary fantasy series is inspired by British myth and folklore. Dan Mackmain is mostly human, but he is a dryad's son, so the Green Man sends him to solve problems when the mundane and the uncanny collide.

This. Also: I don't actually *want* to separate the creator from the creative work, is the thing. I read (fiction & non-fic) to get a sense of the writer's interior life & worldview Quite aside from not wanting to even indirectly finance sexual predators, racists, homophobes and so on

This is exactly how I feel about writing action scenes! I used to do martial arts so am sort of interested in the technicalities, but generally I hate reading/watching action sequences... so I'm mostly like, is this well choreographed?!

There's a really solid chapter outlining the distinction in Zeinab Badawi's An African History of Africa - I kind of feel like any of the Classical pseudo-scholars who feel compelled to draw the comparison should be made to read it before they say anything else on the topic

The thing statements like this are hiding is basically every LLM from the major players has already reached the end of the training data universe. They’ve absorbed everything there is to scrape. They’re in desperate need of new data to build larger models. That data isn’t being created fast enough.
