LRT: Every time a prominent artist is revealed as abusive, there's the inevitable wave of smugness from people who never liked their work, or "always knew" something was up with them. When the victims were fans themselves, that has some real shitty implications.

People really need to give up the idea there's any connection between morality and art. Immoral people are capable of creating moving, empathetic art. Nothing about writing dark and violent art implies the artist is themselves dark and violent. Etc. There just isn't a connection.

Agreed. Universal appeal does not exist; strongly targeted appeal catches intense interest and wins fan loyalty. If you can write something that is passably acceptable to millions or Extremely My Shit to a few tens of thousands, you'll get more readers with the latter.

Idea for Labour: you cannot capitulate to the bigots enough to make them happy. How about instead standing up for trans people? Could be a vote winner amongst people who see you as selling out vulnerable people for power, as well as the right fucking thing to do.
