He was a former Army guy who went from Army to IBM to being an armed volunteer police officer patrolling Sun City, AZ in a golf cart. (You must be 55 or older to live in Sun City, and they have an all-volunteer police force.)

I always felt bad for her bc they were married for something like 50 years and I never once saw him say or do anything kind or loving toward her. He was so mean! Ironically, they had three sons, two of whom grew up to be *incredible* partners. I guess they noticed and decided not to repeat.

My aunt was such a person. She secretly voted for Hillary and was terrified. He never found out, though, and died in 2018. He always kept a picture of the president hung on their bedroom wall but mysteriously ceased the practice in 2008 but resumed in 2017 GEE I WONDER WHY

My daughter is in this same place. She’s thinking of just getting her tubes tied to avoid having the choice made FOR HER if birth control and abortion both go away. I can’t fault her for that. I support whatever they decide. I’m not the pest like “where are my grandchildren” like was done to me.

*none of my people passed. A friend had her brother-in-law pass unexpectedly and so many of the comments are about God…and I don’t know that she is religious. The intention is good, sure, but to be told “they’re in a better place” or “it was God’s will” when that’s not what you believe is…hard.

When someone’s friend or relative passes away and you want to say something nice, only mention God if you’re sure what their faith is and that it would be a comfort. Being a non-religious person and having to hear people say things about God at a time like that is extra stressful and upsetting.
