Communication scholar and media psychologist. Exploring the abyss of digital communications and how to foster democratic resilience. || Associate Professor Digital Democracy Centre University of Southern Denmark || Spokesperson DGPs Media Psychology
📢POSTDOC OPPORTUNITY📢 Come join me Gord Pennycook and @tomcostello.bsky.social as we launch a research program using dialogues with LLMs as a tool to study human psychology and decision-making! Located at MIT or Cornell, and open applicants from all kinds of intellectual backgrounds/training!
Silvio Waisboard closes the comments with calling for the need to account for differences between countries, attacked sholars, perpetrators , and the need to understand better the size of the problem. But also shows how organisations have to reflect potential reputation risks when taking action.
Also very significant insights into the very serious threats Rebecca has received and how such attacks impact those in the Centre of attacks - so important work she'd doing there!
I was able to share some of the work we do at @charms-research.org and from a recent report on what we (don't know) about science related harrassment transferunit.de/thema/hate-s...
Very important also Michael Wagners perspective on the anti-science playbook: showing how selective information is abused, send to partisan newsoutlets, and then trick journalists into striving for balanced coverage. Political rights are abused to bind resources and funding is attacked.
@nielsmede.bsky.social kicks off the panel, sharing his insights on the effects of attacks on science communication - including a potential chilling effect on providing political advice on some.
#ICA24 although I'd love to be there in presence (and hug coalas), I'm very much looking forwards to talking about attacks on scientists and what we can do to safeguard academic freedom and support each other against science-related harrassment thanks @claesdevreese.bsky.social for organizing!
All interesting to see a website calculating carbon footprint of websites. Predictably, it seems that all the big name sites, as well as most of works official websites rank very poorly www.websitecarbon.com
An essential read from the former
research manager of Stanford’s Internet Observatory, on how spreaders of misinformation (people who have been deceived) and disinformation (people who know they’re lying) view even *labelling* a post as misinformation as censorship.
NEWS: After sustained attacks from House Republicans, the Stanford Internet Observatory is being dismantled. A huge blow to academic freedom and our ability to understand platforms and influence operations www.platformer.news/stanford-int...
I'm hiring a postdoc with expertise in computational methods and group identities (e.g. race, gender, religion, nationality, etc.). Please share with anyone you think might be interested. www.asc.upenn.edu/news-events/...
"Emboldened by their victory in overturning Roe v. Wade, social conservatives have gone after other popular targets in recent months, from birth control to IVF. The drive to increase restrictions on divorce is part of the same movement."

Great news for all the package heroes that allow R (and other reserchers like myself) to thrive - cite them widely (and to the journals - give enough space for citations)

Funny but true #IchbinHannah story, I have worked on this paper while being employed at three universities in two countries, moving more than 600 km twice, and living in four different apartments.
