History will recall that the New York Times, that bastion of "the liberal media," on July 4, 2024 chose to give prime space on their op-ed page to a theocratic absolutist who argued that people shouldn't vote, even though he himself has voted in the last 2 elections (but nowhere is that mentioned).

In this particular situation, I (obviously) believe that publicly saying that we need more facts from sources which don't have a stated agenda is appropriate! I'm not looking for a purity checklist. I just don't want to get my data strictly from TERFs and the TERF-adjacent. This is not unreasonable

Never met the man myself, only aware that he's been a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ community and those who broke the news are definitely...not. There are definitely agendas at work here, but these are not equal.

I’m waiting because the primary source of information is heavily associated with a conservative agenda and Gaiman has always been a target due to his advocacy work. This doesn’t make him a hero. This doesn’t buy him leniency. This means I feel we should wait a few days for other sources.

“Wait to learn more” is not picking sides. It’s not believing or disbelieving one party over another. It’s recognizing that a major source of information is sketchy af and we need more information.
