I'm sorry but I have met many racists and I do not believe a single one of them would be less racist if you gave them a UBI or a shorter workweek. Not one
Literally some of the most racist people ever were so rich that they owned other people to do literally all their work for them and made them even richer.
We spent years questioning why so many people appeared to be “voting against their interests” because the dems would be better for them economically when in reality, “their interests” were just “getting to be more racist”.
I need to believe that this is a learned behaviour though. I do think tackling poverty would help.
The alternative is racism/homophobia/sexism etc isn't learned behaviour, and in which case we as a species are fucked and should just die off.

I can’t believe how often, even now, I see people claiming all we need to do is improve material conditions and help people achieve class consciousness. Just a complete failure to understand what motivates the people for whom cruelty and domination are the point.
Maybe it's different outside of this country, but the most overwhelmingly popular president the US ever had was FDR, who dramatically expanded social welfare and shortened the workweek. And this country was certainly not less racist in the 30s and 40s
This myth persists despite the fact that in the US at least the most observably racist people are middle class and up. They are live very comfortably. Trump voters are a majority wealthy suburbanite.
