This is why mask bans are suddenly being proposed. If you’re in a place where that’s happening and you think we should prioritize public and personal health and freedom over expanding the powers of the police state then please do let your representatives know why the freedom to mask matters to you

Read stuff aloud, or even better, have someone else read your stuff aloud (or sign to you, if that’s your language) to you. You’ll discover things you wouldn’t catch on paper.
Do a search for “that” and evaluate each use. Most of the time, it’s totally unnecessary and can be cut.

Also, the Pomodoro method for focus really helps. Depending on your attention span, anything from 15/5 to 48/12 tends to work well.
If can, leave a few days between finishing writing and editing, and a few more before delivery. Take them off, then come back to everything with a fresh perspective.

When you can’t think of/decide on a name for a thing/person, write [XYZ], and then do a search for [XYZ] later to find it. You can do this with multiple, individualized letter combos if you want to find/replace, so long as those combos don’t appear anywhere else.

If I weren’t so bowled over with laughter and EVERY DAMN FEELING this season, I’d be furious. But instead, I will be delightedly awed and astonished, and hope someday to manage a tiny fraction of the magic they so dexterously weave.

I wish I were kidding. I don’t know how they weave such sorcery. For almost everything I watch, I can at least comprehend how the team managed to write/shoot it. Keeso & Co. exist on a plane of magic and fart jokes, flawless dialogue, and ALL OF THE FEELINGS.
It’s incomprehensible.

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I think Shoresy is an even stronger show than Letterkenny. They hit their stride immediately, keep narrative throughlines that hit every emotional note that great sports stories do, and this new season is about as close to perfection as television gets.

Shoresy, why must you emotionally destroy me?
This character should not be able to make me weep, and certainly not in six-episode seasons. And yet here we are, again.
I remain in furious awe of every bit of their storytelling.

The English word "clue" comes from the Ancient Greek story of Theseus & the Minotaur.
Theseus used a "clew" (Old English for 'ball of yarn') to guide him out of the Labyrinth.
So "clew" means 'ball of yarn', transformed by the story to its current meaning, 'that which helps solve a puzzle.'

“Given WotC’s track record…” Fuck off.
“I’m not trying to cast aspersion…” Fuck off.
And when you’re done fucking off, fuck off just a little bit more.

I honestly don’t know. Acting stuff certainly does it—Hamlet was huge on that front—but for writing, I think I need the story before I know the format. (I’m VERY big on choosing the right medium for the right story.)

I’m very lucky to get to write for other people, and I don’t want to minimize that. But when I’m not making enough to live on AND I’m not finding ways of wanting to tell the kinds of stories that matter to me…
I think I’ve lost a lot of my fire over the last few years.

Really grappling with writing lately. Not even the “I hate writing, I love having written,” but it’s been so long since I’ve written something because I WANTED TO, that I honestly don’t remember what it feels like anymore. Everything is for someone else, on a deadline.

Oh my god, this is fucking huge. It was huge when we developed a daily PrEP pill that could prevent you from catching HIV; this is a successful phase III trial of a PrEP shot that will only need to be given *twice a year*. Still needs a confirmatory Phase III, but holy fuck.
