Right. And people forget that Supreme Court Justices almost always come out of the federal court system. Want a good slate of potential nominees down the road? Need to build depth in the federal bench, now.

All of this. And you know what? Even if we can't fix SCOTUS in the short term, the president makes many, MANY other important judicial nominations. All of those matter.

Those loud callers were also calling for her to be dropped from the ticket not too long ago. I get not being thrilled that Biden is our candidate, but no one has convinced me we're not shooting ourselves in the foot if remove him.

I am old enough to remember when these same freaks wanted to "protect" girls sports from lesbians (and it kills me to see other lesbians forget this). Before that, they wanted to protect sports from girls....

like, the whole thing seems very simple? bragg charged that trump committed a felony when he falsified business records to commit the campaign finance violation that michael cohen was already tried and convicted for. bragg also charged that this was done in violation of a new york state election law

Dems talked up subsidies for rural broadband for years, actually passed it when they had a trifecta, then watched the voters who benefited from it vote overwhelmingly for Republicans in 2022, who then cancelled the program. Then voters blame Dems/Biden for losing their cheap internet.

It sure would be comical if Samuel Alito had recently published an opinion in which he expressed strong feelings about flags and wrote that passersby viewing a flag flying over a building would naturally assume the flag conveys some message on the owner's behalf

As told, it’s also more about her being an irresponsible ass. She’s got a hyped-up, uncontrollable bird dog, and failed to secure it in her vehicle properly when stopping somewhere with chickens running around.

This weekend I spent more time than I should have talking about Taylor Lorenz. On Assigned this morning, Alyssa Steinsiek is asking people (including me) to refocus on the queer students who are telling their stories about the school Nex Benedict attended before his death.

There is really no such thing as stable, moderate conservatism and this idea that we need a "sane" conservative party to balance out politics is baby brain stuff. Rightoids who aren't explicitly genocidal freaks are at best dedicated to enriching themselves at everyone else's expense

People who say of Nazis “deal with bad ideas is by defeating them in the marketplace of ideas” are smuggling in the notion that Nazi ideas have not already been defeated on the merits, and are still valid and worthy to consider, or that Nazi "ideas" involve bloodless debate.

Governor Newsom just passed a nearly $300 million budget to combat “organized retail theft.” Since then: Retailers are admitting they lied about the extent of retail theft. And FBI data just released tells us retail theft is down & property crime is *lowest since 1961.* Lies.

Legally, the idea that a constitutional provision becomes unusable if it hasn't been used for a long period of time is known as the doctrine of desuetude. SCOTUS has previously held that desuetude does not apply to the U.S. Constitution.

Has Trump been a Russian spy since the ‘70s? No. Is there proof Russia threw the election to Trump? No. But he did engage in an organized effort to ask an authoritarian to help him cheat in the election. That in itself is totally unprecedented in US history and he should probably be in jail.

It worked for the GOP during the 2004 election, when they put ballot initiatives opposing same-sex marriage on as many state ballots as they could. Knowing the Dems, of course they'll decide they're above doing anything like that (i.e. "effective").
