I don’t want a single dime of my tax money going to help deluded New England beach-house owners who are mad that climate change and erosion don’t give a shit about their property value.
These same people don’t give a shit about actually helping us mitigate climate change and thought they’d be able to buy their way out of being affected by it, if they’re not actively on the wrong side, so [huge fart noise]
"Some of these houses have been in the family for generations, you can't just walk away from that"
Yes you can. You got a free house! Now the sea is going to eat it, but you still have the memories and you don't have a mortgage. Go live like other people who didn't inherit a beachfront property.
A civil engineer would have recommended double that sum of large boulders (rip-rap) be placed along a line of undisturbed dune to absorb wave action. Sand is liquid under wave action.
Wealthy asshats. Just looking for a handout again. "I've got more money than god, but help me instead of someone who's starving."
I'm done with these short sighted hypocrites. They've known with the rest of us this was coming and they ignored it. That was a bad life choice, my dude, suck it up.
This. So much of this. You live where erosion is imminent, move. It’s not my problem that you don’t understand nature. You live where hurricanes are increasingly frequent, GTFO. You cannot fight Mother Nature.
"so, first we're going to bury a bunch of old cut down trees in the sand to introduce carbon to the system, then we're going to absolutely cover the beach with beachgrass... what? no, you can't walk on it. any of it."
Idk have they tried pulling themselves up by their bootstraps? Doesn’t sound like a problem for “big government” to be giving “handouts”, oh wait it’s trickle down economics when rich people get handouts
They’ll be safe at the expense of literally everyone else
Happens everywhere with coastal erosion. Essentially affluent areas that starts screaming to be saved no matter the cost to various agencies. And agencies going just what do you think we can do? Sorry but you’re on your own. (Which is fine by me)
I live two blocks from the water.
I have roughly 20 years to enjoy this place before it's flooding every year and 30 before it floods every day.
If I ever act this obviously boneheaded about trying to stay longer, Please take me behind the shed and do the thing, it's simply the most humane option
OC Maryland has been dredging and replacing the beach since I was a kid. There’s like a 1/2 mile wide dead zone running along the shore. We don’t do anything right, we do everything in service of money.
googling "massachusetts public beach access" before I decide whether to care about this, then making a fart noise so loud it registers on the richter scale
I thought this looked familiar.
These are the people who spent $600k on sand that was washed away a week later in what ended up being a very expensive sacrifice to Neptune.
even more maddening?
there's a private, invite-only gated beach-front community that has secured historic preservation status
which comes with increased taxpayer funding to help protect against flooding and such
