There's been a lot of discussion about the youth vote and questions about if young people will support Biden in Election2024. One clear outcome of the first debate was that youth-led climate groups are now calling for Biden to withdraw from the campaign:

And if you love the *idea* of a woman for president but only could possibly stomach some fantasy candidate who is not under consideration and every actual woman is so deeply flawed you could never vote for her, you might be (are) sexist

AND the next president is likely to have 2-3 seats to replace on SCOTUS. (note I'm just reporting here).

Agreed, I'm just sharing information about trends based on data I'm collecting. As far as I'm concerned, these actions (and the general response to the first debate) should make anyone who cares about the climate crisis EXTREMELY WORRIED.

I get a lot of questions about art and cultural production around the climate crisis (vs other large scale social movements, which inspired popular music etc). I think people are missing all of the Comedy that is focusing on the issue--which makes a lot of sense given where the world is going.

If you thought it was hard to push back entrenched interests yesterday, it’s gonna get harder (thanks to SCOTUS)

Between last night’s debate and SCOTUS beginning to implement Project 2025 from the bench, I’m getting strong apocalyptic vibes today.

Worth noting that there's a lot more nuance to this point and a question about its effectiveness outside autocratic states--see Chenoweth herself in this article and elsewhere, as well as Oscar Berglund's work on Extinction Rebellion (and my more recent work)...

Very interesting article, which basically shows that activities like taken by @letztegenerationat.bsky.social are not counter productive.
What is a bit intimidating is the quote in the text
“Non-violence is effective. But what’s especially effective is non-violence met by repression,”

My new book, Saving Ourselves, actually speaks extensively about this point about repression that @owasow.bsky.social has worked on around the Civil Rights Movement (and I cite his valuable research) in the context of the climate movement. For Details and discussion: www.savingourselvesbook.com

Great New Overview of the science of protests in Nature. In it, I ask (again): “Is it better to throw soup on a painting, or block traffic, or glue yourself to something?” says Dana Fisher...“We don’t know which is the most effective.”
