After multiple disagreements with Cardinal management, Hernandez was traded to the Mets. Hernandez said that he believed his cocaine use while playing for the team was the impetus for the trade and that he even played a game while under its influence."

Both things can be true. Mandatory military service is a bad idea for a variety of reasons & he is a massive hypocrite for recommending a policy that he actively avoided. And that's even excluding his references to veterans/KIAs and POWs being "suckers & losers".

Both. And you're conflating what the US understands a draft to be (a service requirement in time of war, ie: WWII or Vietnam) with what Trump's circle is proposing.

So you're trying to connect McCain, a veteran who served during a time of war (although not one who was drafted) & a military draft to Trump, who is not a veteran & actively sought exemptions to not serve during a time of war? What exactly is your point?

You don't think it is notable that the guy calling for mandatory military service has exactly ZERO military service in his family? (not to mention the draft dodging)

If Kristi Noem wasn't a self-admitted puppy (and goat) killer, she'd be at the top of that list. Imagine doing something that Trump considered tacky.

I've written about this before.
Hearings matter.
Regardless of their outcome, they draw a line in the sand regarding what is NOT acceptable, and demonstrate that to the public.
A hearing regarding Justice Alito would also show the Democrats pushing back.

Just did the math and this blows about a $20k hole in what I expected to make in 2024.
I absolutely get it if you can’t afford to be a Patreon patron or paid subscriber to my newsletter.
Under these circumstances, could I please ask you to boost this post though? That would help immensely—thanks!

You can interpret the constitutional text literally as what it meant when written, or you could adapt it to the current day & be humble about causing disruptions. But what the SCOTUS majority does is apply the first standard to Democrats and liberal causes, and the second standard to Donald Trump.

the only real principle you can discern from Trump v. Anderson is that the conservative jurists believe that the Constitution says whatever they think it needs to say in order to reach the outcome they want most.

"Mitch McConnell’s great legacy is the thorough institutionalization of minority rule in U.S. politics, especially at the federal level. The first and most obvious part of that is that McConnell, more than anyone else, is the man who broke the US Senate, largely by domesticating the filibuster."
