With the current, multiple genocides occuring, I haven't been able to read. This hasn't happened in years (and ofc right before Stokercon), but there are more important things right now, and we have the responsibility to witness and to help. Strength to all of you out there, I know things are bad.

Oough. I hate that so much. It was bad enough as I already understood it, but that's another extra layer of gross

Wait, was Freydís Moon pretending to be Autistic as well as Latine? Is this just another minority they claimed in order to be involved with limited-scope projects?

Just a reminder to any allistics: if an autistic friend/family member is having a meltdown, do NOT try to physically hold or trap them *unless* this is something requested beforehand by the Autist. DO discuss with them what is most helpful/harmful. Assumptions are not your friend here. (1/2)

Normally @thunderstormbooks.bsky.social is a bit pricey for me, but when I saw that they were doing a collected @haileypiperfights.bsky.social release I didn't hesitate. This will be my 1st Thunderdtorm LE, so I'm looking forward to checking out the quality

I'll be adding Spectrum: An Autistic Horror Anthology edited by Aquino Loayza, Freydís Moon, and @lormaggot.bsky.social
and
A Botanical Daughter by @noahmedlock.bsky.social - if Simon isn't Autistic I'd eat my non-existent hat.
Most of these have queer representation as well

I will try to get back to the reviews and thank yous I owe shortly. My anxiety has been a beast with an upcoming surgery in two days and later a two-week trip to CA for Stokercon/personal business. Trying Seroquel (again) to control the panic/existential dread; they suffocate and leave me incapable

I considered that as well, but I still feel it's considered bad form to use "the blacks" for what I think is meant to be a sympathetic protagonist that is supposed to be portrayed here as No-Longer-Racist, going back home to FL, where there's a cult with a racist leader. That's why it was so jarring

For Splatterpunk and other #horrorlit fans, Aron Beauregard has just released a Signed Deluxe Hardcover Ed of his divisive work Playground.
I felt the story was a bit slow and felt forced in places, but I know that many enjoyed the over-the-top gore and the especially disturbing antagonist.

I almost missed this one! #horrorlit fans, get you some #comics written by incredible horror author @sgj.bsky.social 📚😱.
There are signed scripts for $35, which I ofc needed alongside some of the other goodies including an album by Trivium's vocalist/lead guitar Matthew Kiichi Heavy

I'm pretty sure this isn't correct, is it? One doesn't use the term "the blacks" anymore, right? And isn't Black supposed to be capitalized in all these sentences, not just the one? This was published by a pretty major #horrorlit publisher in '24, so I feel like the editor should have caught this.

Most of the book is pretty smoothe, and professional, but those two pages look a mess. It's unfortunate because it's very apparent the author is saying 'racism is wrong,' but it looks like both editor and author may be ignorant to certain current standards around the topic?
It was jarring for me

Ah, yes, I would like an order of one Autism Spectrum Disorder, please. To go.
That's sort of how my diagnoses felt, tbh. Went to the only dude in town known for diagnosing adults, said I'm Autistic (with a list of reasons why), and received my diagnoses by phone a couple of months later.

Jade's grief, her survivor's guilt, her overwhelming anxiety and the myriad of often destructive ways she attempts to deal with her trauma feel so familiar. She and I are very different, but our internal worlds are similar. Trauma is like that: so many differences, but so much in common.

Someone once said My Heart is a Chainsaw is just another slasher. I was gobsmacked at everything they were missing then, but @sgj.bsky.social has only given us more unique insight and depth by The Angel of Indian Lake.
I'm not even finished and I can't recommend the trilogy enough. They have 🤎 😱📚

Oh man, what a dream that would be. I don't think I'm reliable enough at this point in my life, though, as much as I want to be. I couldn't even remember to sign up for this next month's Night Worms despite putting it on my calendar and setting up notices. Some of this stuff goes so damned fast!!

Ugh, I was hoping that maybe someone was following at least SOME of it. I try, but I think it needs someone with more contacts in the industry. I do have a pretty comprehensive list of presses, including indie, but a lot of authors go through multiple and sometimes a SE will just come out of nowhere

From @tcparker.bsky.social's To Coventry. I think a version of this idea is why horror often appeals to those with trauma. There is a lot to be said for facing your trauma in a safe environment and of finding comfort and a sense of normalcy in relating to others, both fictional and real

I feel called out, and I'm barely into @sgj.bsky.social's The Angel of Indian Lake.
My anxiety has been out of orbit lately, especially since I purchased flights and tickets to Stokercon. Excitement is also there, but leaving my accustomed surroundings (and esp my pets) is gonna be hard.

Good example is NCIS' Ziva David. She's almost a super-solider compared to her American compatriots. Police-procedurals already tend to ignore real-world systemic issues and present a perfected version - the IDF pops up in all sorts of weird media as the most elite soldiers.

I'll try to be brave enough to make myself known if there's an opportune moment - that would be a treat for me. Your books have been a comfort during some pretty bleak times, and I can't say how much I appreciate that they exist in the world!

I'm so thrilled for another Autistic horror anthology, which sounds like I'm anthropomorphizing the book. Hell, if any inanimate object could be Autistic, a book fits
Anyway, can't wait to receive my copy! I *loved* Rewired: Divergent Perspectives in Horror. So much crying.

I think there's some of that in the appeal for true crime as well. Yes, some are serial killer groupies that don't honor the victims, but I think a larger percentage want
1. To know what to be afraid of, what to look out for
and
2. To know they aren't the only ones to go through something horrible

I had a really good run last month! Out of 13 Books/Novellas there were only two that got less than 4/5 stars. Everyone in the list received the full 5, ofc.
The following were right behind y'all, just barely:
The Others of Edenwell by Verity M Holloway, Rewired ed A R Ward
