Our free press: "Biden must withdraw from the race because democracy is more important than one man's ego." Okay, so what's the threat to democracy? "We can't tell you because if we did then the people threatening it would stop giving us quotes." Kind of a mixed message tbh!

It feels like the news outlets demanding Biden's resignation "for the good of the nation" ought to have enough courage to fight for the good of the nation themselves, rather than drowning us in both-sideism and rote repetition of the lies that have brought us here. But cowardice rules the day.

This is just tabloid stuff from the Times at this point. There's still no real evidence that Biden's debate performance was anything more than one bad night, but we're now in day whatever of this ridiculous Times wishcasting. Trump getting convicted of a raft of felonies bored them to tears, tho.

I just counted home page stories. The Daily Caller has five anti-Biden and six pro-Trump stories. The New York Times has seven anti-Biden stories and three that give this style of both-sides treatment to Trump. The Times really is sprinting off a cliff to satisfy their nepo-publisher’s vendetta.

Ordering this withdrawal is an official act, since the President is Commander in Chief. His motives for doing so, and in particular any connection to the recent deposit from the government of Cuba, are inadmissible. So: yes.

I have been saying since February that major media are 100% devoted to But Her Emails 2, but I didnt imagine it would get this bad. The day after SCOTUS stops the law applying to Trump, we have to scroll thru 4 fucking top stories on “Biden old” & an ad before getting to anything on SCOTUS decision

After the Court’s decision yesterday, I think there’s an argument from necessity for Biden seizing Trump and trying him by military tribunal, given the sudden unavailability of Article III courts. Plus, itʼs just the sort of thing they’ve authorized an active and energetic chief executive to do.

I am still not seeing evidence of Biden's supposed deterioration aside from one clearly under-the-weather performance. He's made several appearances since then and was fine? Sure he's damn old, but stuttering problems can be severe when sick. Wary of claiming it's a wider cognitive issue.

I mean you'd have to be a stone cold sucker to think that our legal system still allows consequences against rich or powerful people. "Not a chance" is the only through line of Roberts court decisions.

I really think Roberts is a Kavanaugh-level dullard. His opinions are utterly vapid, just whatever he has to do to get to the desired endpoint. If the facts of the case don't support that endpoint he gets all vague and pretends the facts are mysterious or unknowable. A total hack.

Kav/Alito/Thomas may be the biggest examples of Failing Up our culture has ever produced. Their opinions are always high school book report drivel--ffs, don't they have whole legal teams behind them to ensure they DIDN'T embarrass themselves? How are their clerks not drinking themselves to death?

It's wild how the SCOTUS 6 can so reliably produce half-assed, opinions that follow no consistent string of logic and are pocked with factual errors but still consider themselves brilliant legal minds. Roberts is clown shoes in his opinions but he's still super sure he comes off as dignified.

When Chief Justice Roberts was nominated, many "wise people" in DC said that Democrats should be re-assured, because John Roberts was "an institutionalist before he was a partisan." If that ever was true (and I doubt it was), it is not true today. Today's Trump decision is pure partisanship.

Really think it's worth gaming out an immediate Biden move to expand the court. Like, announcing it this week. Somebody explain to me what the downside would be, because I'm not seeing it. You're not gonna make GOP anger any worse. Public hates SCOTUS with a passion right now. Go for it.

This is the ball game folks, the authoritarian green light laid out in advance. Congress will not impeach Trump. And SCOTUS now blesses him with extraordinary latitude to do whatever he wants in power. A second administration will not be constrained by Congress, the courts, the bureaucracy or law.

Fact checking is literally the only purpose of journalism. A political system in which the powerful are allowed to lie at will and the supposed free press considers their only job to be presenting the lies with music and fancy graphics is already three quarters of the way to authoritarianism.

The NYT, sure. The NYT has propped up Trump more than any "straight" news outlet in America, they def think a night of NyQuil Brain is more disqualifying than 34 felonies. That's what they think 'balance' means.

I admit I'm just not getting the freakout. Biden was sick and looked/sounded like crap. This is... not an unusual human event, and a single evening of it does not count as permanent disability. If it keeps happening, sure, but one evening of NyQuil Brain hardly seems pull-the-fire-alarm material.

NYT has always been pretty transparent in their attempts to legitimize Trump's corruption of democratic values but Trump's opponent has one bad debate night and they flood the zone with op-eds like they're storming the beaches of Normandy. Endless bad faith. Endless.
