Fact checking is literally the only purpose of journalism. A political system in which the powerful are allowed to lie at will and the supposed free press considers their only job to be presenting the lies with music and fancy graphics is already three quarters of the way to authoritarianism.

The NYT, sure. The NYT has propped up Trump more than any "straight" news outlet in America, they def think a night of NyQuil Brain is more disqualifying than 34 felonies. That's what they think 'balance' means.

I admit I'm just not getting the freakout. Biden was sick and looked/sounded like crap. This is... not an unusual human event, and a single evening of it does not count as permanent disability.
If it keeps happening, sure, but one evening of NyQuil Brain hardly seems pull-the-fire-alarm material.

NYT has always been pretty transparent in their attempts to legitimize Trump's corruption of democratic values but Trump's opponent has one bad debate night and they flood the zone with op-eds like they're storming the beaches of Normandy. Endless bad faith. Endless.

There has never, not once, been similar panic from the NYT over the Republicans standing behind a seditionist who tried to overthrow the government, is a convicted felon, lies so egregiously that experts can't decide if he's in his right mind, and promises to jail his enemies if elected.

The idea that people who went to law school know everything and people who went to any other kind of school know nothing is pretty much the only consistent opinion you're ever going to get from people who went to law school.

I keep being told by supposed AI experts that this is impossible because the AI doesn't even store the works it slurps up, it just uses them to build networks of abstract tokens that don't reflect the original works at all.
So much of this stuff is just a stone-cold scam.

Roberts: And so this court decides that we, rather than scientific or policy experts, will hold all regulatory power. In unrelated news, it is legal to bribe us now.
Kavanaugh: [Reaches under the bench, sets out little wicker tray]
Kagan: Where ... where did you even get that.
Kavanaugh: Church.

CNN gave us all a crash course in how democracies fall, and if anything they seem proud of themselves for it.

This is the first presidential debate in many years that I don't have to watch for work reasons and I am going to not watch it so hard.

The Washington Post makes it sound like the Supreme Court ruled on the substance of the case, but it hasn’t. And lower courts now must take it up again. All the Justices did was pluck themselves out of the situation and fly off like the Lorax.

Hey execs, once you allow dictatorship, sooner or later you’ll get a left-wing dictatorship, and then you’ll understand why you shouldn’t have done that. I mean, Jesus, read a book.

I mean Netanyahu aligned himself with far-right cranks calling for 'true solutions' that are plainly genocidal and which dismiss mass starvation because "there are no innocent civilians" but we're supposed to let that slide to instead focus on whichever college dumbass did a dumbass thing today.
