Reminds me, after I finish The Night of Potions by Michael Ende (another great German author of children's books) I need to resume reading Inkheart, which I started reading in the original language to improve my German. The story was starting to get good (although also scary)

I need to finish this book, I stopped reading at the creature's own story *SPOILER ALERT* (in the part where he finds the nice family) *END OF SPOILER*. But I have a kind of OCD-y habit of reading horror books only in October (because Halloween), so it's going to take me so time to get back at it.

Again the best to prevent fascism is a robust social safety net, strong wages and active government efforts to help the poor. Neoliberalism and austerity carve away at this, leaving fascism able to grow.

This is how "AI" should be done. By starting with the question of "what tedious/repetitive task can we have automation do to free up people's time?" rather than "how can we make things cheaper for the corporations?"

Our only weapon against AI is boycotting the companies using AI whenever possible. If they want to cut staff let's cut their profit by boycotting them. A fair deal - they cut us (us artists), we cut them

I'm starting to get comments on Twitter on this thread. Comments like "But why is using genA/I so bad/harmful?" It's plagiarism and based on exploitation. The tech also consumes massive amounts of energy & is environmentally destructive. It also accelerates the spread of dangerous disinformation.

Reminds me, I need to resume reading Ninefox Gambit on my Kindle. I bought too many good e-books at once (The Quantum Thief, The City in the Middle of the Night, A Memory Called Empire and Lake of Souls) and I need to resume reading all of them.

Today I realized I am a bad nerdy trans woman: I've had an Steam account for more than a decade but it took me six years to finally buy and play Celeste, a game whose protagonist is also a trans woman with depression and anxiety.
I am sorry for disappointing you, community.

Thereâs a lot of terrible in the news lately. Throw your heart into what brings you joy. What makes you feel lighter. What eases the ache and the terror even a little bit. The brightest parts of my life, lately, have been unexpected magick. And that makes us stronger. And that helps us to fight.

I mean, replace "bad" in my sentence with "mediocre" and it's still not a good argument. Like, "if this happens humans will breathe oxygen!" ok. And so? Also, like breathing, the act of making art of any quality is good for humans. I want all the art in the world, of any quality.

Acknowledge that creating art is a human need and activity. It isnât some special separate thing. We need art and we need to create art. It is communication and nourishment. We eat, we speak, we art. Not everyone is a great chef, lots of mediocre food, but we still value it and teach cooking.

"I like art that confronts and disturbs me." Lovely! I wish you all the joy in finding that art. "Art that I think isn't sufficiently confrontational and disturbing isn't real or good art." Yeah, fuck off.

I am begging you to rethink if you find yourself saying any version of "Art should confront/disturb/disrupt/be realistic or plausible/buy me a pony/fill in the blank." Every artist has their own artistic project. Why do you think YOU get to tell them what it should be?
