Tomorrow morning - go out to vote. Then go to the supermarket for the rest of the snacks and nibbles. Home to make sure laundry and dishes are clean and tidied away, and sofa cushions plumped. NAP! Alarm set for 10pm for a curry and the Schadenfreude Festival Commencement.

Ortolan Bunting? The females look very like sparrows apart from the reddish beaks. The males have rather more distinctive yellow throats. They sing 'plink plink' in a soft shy sort of way.

In Europe and Asia the Grey Heron has adjusted nicely to living peacefully alongside humans and despite their size and beak, they're actually mostly a nuisance if you have a garden pond, as they WILL steal your goldfish. Oh gosh, have you seem Miyazaki's film The Boy And The Heron? That's a ride.
