Being a good boss is a learnable set of skills. It’s not about being a “people person” or a “natural leader.” Most bosses aren’t trained and fumble to figure those skills out or fake it, often badly. But most folks can learn to do it kindly, effectively, and sustainably.

(To be clear: I’m not sure that scales so well, or has such a high hit rate, and also exposes the academic to all kinds of nonsense. But I think broadly it’s true that finding avenues to bring the work out of academia allows curious folks to find it, and bring themselves into academia to learn more)

Man it’s not surprising to see an early yellow-rumpled warbler or two, but to have four different warbler species in Toronto in April is wild to me. 🪶

I made a zine titled "White People Hate Protests" which compiled opinion surveys from the 1960s. You can read it here and also share it with people who flap their gums about how so many people supported the tactics of the Black freedom movement of the 60s.: queer.archive.work/library/down...

Ours had a total turnaround on the issue when we switched to a miso braise for some reason. Now it’s a top veggie for them. Would be fascinated to know if that result generalizes.
