It's wild to me that some people don't do this. It's instinct to me to ask, "Are you a shoes-off household?" at the door if I don't see a bunch of shoes there. (Obviously, if I see a bunch of shoes there, it's a fair assumption that yes, I should take mine off, too.)

when you are invited to someone's home, wear nicer socks and/or bring your own house slippers. offer to take your shoes off before they ask. being a good guest is respecting your host and their home.

What? You do NOT love CMOS? 😆 Suffice it to say I love the level of finesse. It is not appropriate for all publications, like I would not use Chicago style for a daily paper. But you know, flexibility is part of CMOS's guidance, so feel free to establish your own style when you disagree with theirs.

my partner and i have been together since 2001, and just when i thought we couldn't be any closer, she tells me that her new graduate program requires chicago-style citations.
