I believe this little guy is part of this year’s Carolina wren baby batch, and is in the “looks adult but not quite a confident flier” phase.
He clung to my office window for a good five minutes making angry faces at me.
He's only grumpy because he sees the other wrens being happy bouncy bois and he can't make that work yet. It's okay fren it gets better!
As a kid I kept my sports stuff in the carport, and wrens made their nest in my baseball glove. I'd switched to soccer already, but would've had to then
We're in the middle of this with magpies. Angry fledgling magpies who don't really have tails yet, flopping all over the neighborhood, while their parents YELL AT EVERYONE NOT TO CRUSH THE BABY
We had a fledgling mockingbird on our 6th floor office window ledge hopping up and down and tapping on the glass for an hour the other day. I couldn’t tell if he was trying to get through the glass into the office or just saw his own reflection, but he had that same sulking expression,
Love your alt texts! 😂
We had fledglings of great tit, blue tit, and pied flycatcher at the same time. The bushes were peeping and the parents were screaming at me, the huge scary predator, from the trees.
10/10 parenting. They did an excellent job.
Obviously you were supposed to feed them. We have "baby" (the size of adults) grackles standing in the MIDDLE of the feeder tray with their mouths open. Because Dad should drop food in.
Last year one of the baby crows did this repeatedly while he was trying to figure out how to fly. I'd hear a THUMP and look over to see him perched on my windowsill looking embarrassed
I love birds at this age. They stand around yelling at bugs and other food being confused as to why it won't fly into their beaks before finally figuring out they have to do it themselves.
My parent’s house has a small hole in the exterior wall directly next to their wall mounted ac unit. House wrens moved in and you can hear the chicks peeping as it echoes through the wall unit. My dad not being able to hear them was one of the reasons we finally convinced him to see an audiologist
While working inside earlier this week, I heard a very insistent call that I didn’t recognize. I finally identified a juvenile mockingbird when their parent came and fed them. Godspeed, little asshole.
