My first-generation immigrants parents and all their friends are mortified at the invasion of NYC by migrants. (I live in Manhattan and haven't seen anything, but they are convinced Manhattan is overrun like a zombie apocalypse movie.)

My kid randomly shared his take while cooking- We are a nation of "illegal immigrants". We are decendants of illegal immigrants. Even if you got papers and paid to be here- illegal immigrants did that and you are still an illegal immigrant because they have no authority to give you permission.
