In my district, one of AOC's pals is being challenged by an entrenched / establishment Democrat-type (who is being funded almost exclusively by AIPAC.)

So odd to a west coaster like me. California hasn’t been a blue stronghold all that long and primary from the left is a real concern. Even our state wide office holders are shifting left.
We have red district shit weasels like Darryl Issa, but about 8 of those seats are now legit in play.
It takes money to run for office… or a lot of time and effort. Fund people to run. Give them the resources. But, frankly, no one is going to pass the purity test.
The NY dems need systemic change in their party apparatus. Not just for ideological reasons, but strategic ones. The fact that the NY dems cost dems control of the house in 2022 should NEVER be forgotten and Jacob’s should have been physically kicked out of leadership after that
The octogenarian Dem leadership and their hand picked sycophant "successors" clearly saw that possibility and it feels like 85 percent of their limited political energy has gone into crushing the life out of their best young candidates and violently suppressing their base voters.
It’s gotten a little better. The IDC (which was basically “democrats” empowering republicans) got chased out a few years ago. But there was still Cuomo. And Hochul is basically female Cuomo
The gist I'm getting is that since politics has moved further from the local and more towards national. When one party takes more control of a state because the national politics of the other is incompatible the winning party becomes mushy and weak because it no longer has to be competitive.
I think to choose to be a Democrat in Kansas you have to believe in liberal causes. To choose Democrat in New York (or California) you just have to want to be in power.
Instead it was a wake up call for them to circle the wagons and defeat the true enemy: anyone who might threaten their self-serving corruption. I’m a lifelong NYer and seriously, fuck these people. Pardon my French.
